A TALE OF TWO HEARTS, LAKE VICTORIA AND A LIFETIME OF BLISS

We arrived at Sori at about 9.30 in the PM. Sori is a small Lakeside town in Migori County that stands toe to toe with lake Victoria with a population of about 10,000 people.

Evenings in Sori are typically quiet with a few men and women roaming the streets here and there and the men out in the lake casting their nets. My long time friends were getting married. I had quite a bit of a challenge explaining to people if I was from the bride's side or the groom's side because I have known these two amazing human beings for as long as I can remember. When you are a freshman in college, it's only natural that you blend in with people you have something in common with.Being a freshman in college is a stormy phase of life, especially if your campus lies squarely in the Nairobi CBD. I could go on and on about this but let me just reiterate that I with a couple other friends spent most of our Friday evenings savoring well cooked and properly creamed managu and saga in Oliver's hostel room, which they shared with three other guys. PURE BLISS

Saturday Morning

Nothing feels as great as waking up to a beautiful sunrise and a breath taking view of the lake.

As small as Sori town is, it has several accommodation options that a globe trotter can explore. There's Supanova, a three star hotel with beautiful spacious rooms and balconies that overlook the lake, there's Lake Victoria Beach Resort, and then there's Zhanjiang, just to mention but a few. Let's talk about Zhanjiang. Why would someone give a hotel such a name amidst a people with sh and s problems? It's not fair.If I lived in Sori and I had to refer to that hotel frequently I'd just call it "Zi" and save myself the agony of having to pronounce it's name in full.

It'd be something like;

"Find me at the Zi"

"See you at the Zi"

"I'm waiting for you at the Zi"

"She's spending the night at the Zi "

"We're having lunch at the Zi"

Anywho, I don't know if it's just me but there's something therapeutic about large water bodies that I can't explain. I'm not sure if it's the water or the islands, or the beautiful illusion of the place where the sky meets the water. I just don't understand. And the most interesting bit is that from Sori one is able to get an undistracted view of the coveted Migingo Island.

Nevertheless, If you've ever attended an African traditional wedding ceremony then you'll agree with me that food is the centre of everything. It's top on the agenda of the day.After a sumptuous meal of a variety of delicacies from ugali to chicken to g nut sauce (we resorted that groundnut water was more befitting )😂😂😂😂 to traditional vegetables, we set out for the lake where we enjoyed a very delightful boat ride. Okay,...not all of us, some people adamantly refused to get into the boat .Hydrophobia is real my people😁😁😁

Anyway, I will keep these photos for each time I am about to give up on something. See, you don't have to be preaching about something for days for you to be heard,all you need to do is to act and those around you will definitely pick up something from it.These two have shown me (and others who know them ) that you have to fight for something if you really want it.They have come a long way, been dating since high school. I don't even remember my high school sweetheart's name. Wait, did I have one? I honestly don't remember.

I particularly loved their choice of outfits.Blue is such a laid back color and I really love how it effortlessly blends into nature (must be the blue sky) The icing on the cake was definitely the intricate embroidery details on both outfits. Perfection.

Point is, love lives here and I was honored to be part of the celebration that brought together a host of friends and family in a very colorful ceremony, in a beautiful home on a hill by the lake.

Good food, good views, laughter, good company, serenity, love.

There are so many things in a human being's life that they never want to experience again but this ain't one of them. I want to relive this weekend. I want to travel back to Sori Beach, wake up to a beautiful sunrise and watch the Sun go to sleep.
